Observatory

In April 2003 I took delivery of a modified 8'x8' garden shed which has a roll off roof. The advantages of an observatory are

  • accurate polar alignment
  • quick set-up time
  • no lifting 

The main instrument is a 10" LX200 with a finder camera

My previous scope a 10" f5 Newtonian.  70mm Meade ETX. Seen here on the morning of 07/05/03 when I used it to get images of the transit of Mercury. No shadows at this point - there was only about 5 minutes of sunshine all morning. 
 

 

 

Mike Tyrrell and me (left) with the LX200. It was mounted on this wooden trolley for several years before moving into a roll-off roof observatory (see below).

Attached to the scope is a JVC digital camcorder which we used to take all the ISS images on this site.
